DAY CAMP FULL-TIME TEACHING ARTIST

Camp Name: Camp Kehilla
Location: Long Island, NY
Start Date: Late June- Mid August Tuesdays and Thursdays only from 9am-1pm
Salary: $175/day. $16.50/hr for all meetings/training dates.

ABOUT THE CAMP

Camp Kehilla, a Sid Jacobson JCC experience, is designed to make the typical camp experience accessible to neurodivergent campers. Our approach allows for a customized summer for children ages 5-21 years with developmental disabilities, Autism spectrum disorder, and/or other neurodevelopmental conditions. By combining typical camp activities such as swimming, arts & crafts, and sports with evidence-based social facilitation techniques, campers have an opportunity to forge friendships and develop social skills in an environment that closely resembles that of a neurotypical setting. The flexible structure of camp promotes the ability for each camper’s individual strengths to flourish, which helps craft a personalized experience for everyone who attends.

ABOUT THE ROLE

mainstages brings Summer Theater Lab's Challenge Accepted to Camp Kehilla campers this Summer 2025. Campers influence the action by being provided a daily themed challenge and working together to creatively problem-solve solutions. Participants will learn conflict resolution and advocacy through a series of aged-based devised theater skills-building games, movement exercises, music, and scene work! Adaptable for all ages!

  • Teach theater 5-7 activity periods for (30 minutes in length) daily as part of selective and daily programming for children spanning in age from 5-21.
  • Curate lesson plans that promote socialization and expression, for this neurodivergent population.
  • Assist with creative input and production in activities, specialty days, and clubs.
  • Lead a morning "Pump Up" at the bus circle.

CANDIDATE SKILLS

  1. Commitment to empathetic leadership of young people.
  2. High level of professionalism and accountability.
  3. Interpersonal and team-building skills.
  4. Reflective and creative thinking skills.
  5. A passion for arts education and giving kids a place to belong and be heard.
  6. Previous camp experience, preferred.

Location: Long Island, NY
Start Date: June 30th - August 22nd
Salary: $4500 stipend for the summer.

ABOUT THE CAMP

Mid-Island Y is a large traditional camp in a beautiful area of Long Island has a great reputation and a thriving community of committed kids!

ABOUT THE ROLE

mainstages brings the Theater-In-A-Box program to Mid-Island Y Day Camp, which consists of daily activity periods (Summer Theater Lab: Challenge Accepted) and the Triple Threat Academy showcase club period which culminates in a presentation, including costume accents, support on tech and show date and a pre-camp family zoom to gain interest!

  • Teach theater 5-6 activity periods for daily as part of selective and daily programming for children spanning in age from 5-16.
  • Direct a mainstages' original showcase program for 3rd-6th graders.
  • Assist with creative input and production in activities, specialty days, and clubs on rainy days. Including 1 late night a summer to stay until 7pm to run an evening activity.
  • Assist in the arrival and dismissal of campers.
