Seeking In-Person After School Theater Teaching Artists

ABOUT THE JOB:

Teaching artists in mainstages after school programs are passionate about bringing theatre to diverse communities of children at both public and private schools throughout Queens and Long Island, by teaching workshop classes, as well as facilitating and directing devised showcase productions and musical productions.

Time Commitment:

After School programs are typically held one day per week on weekday afternoons. Depending upon availability, you may be offered one or more afterschool programs on multiple weekdays.

Ideal Candidates:

• Have experience directing youth theater productions or teaching youth theater classes in an afterschool and/or summer camp setting.
• Have strong leadership skills
• Have a lot of energy, and an ability to keep a fun vibe going even when children are tired
• Are comfortable managing large groups of children
• Are confident in their time management skills
• Are organized and detail-oriented
• Enjoy working as part of a team
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills
• Are able to effectively communicate with families of the children they teach

Applicants should be able to self-report to Astoria, Queens for vehicle and supplies pickup, and those with access to a vehicle are also strongly encouraged to apply.

PAY:

$100-200 per session depending on length. All teaching artists are considered independent contractors.

We offer flexible scheduling, high per diem rates, and other growth opportunities.
